Phot of UBS office in New York Executed through the Powered by We Platform
WeWork's Uncharted Territory: The Visionary Ideas That Never Took Off
Remember WeWork? The once high-flying coworking titan had aspirations that reached far beyond shared office spaces. But when Softbank put the brakes on funding, a treasure trove of ingenious projects got left in the dust. Time to uncover WeWork's unrealized innovations and reveal the hidden gems that might have disrupted the workspace scene.

Powered by We Logo
Powered by We - Tailor-made Havens for Corporate Heavyweights
WeWork had its eyes on the corporate prize with "Powered by We," a custom service catering to the likes of UBS and Standard Chartered Bank. By designing, building, and managing swanky office spaces, Powered by We planned to revolutionize the way large organizations set up shop. In a world where flexible workspaces are now all the rage, this initiative could've been a game-changer.

WeLive New York
WeLive - A Bold New Take on Co-Living
WeLive was WeWork's daring leap into the co-living market. Offering decked-out apartments with month-to-month leases, WeLive aimed to create a sense of community while giving residents the flexibility they craved. While its growth was stymied by WeWork's money troubles, the dream of a seamless live-work-play experience still holds plenty of appeal.
HQ by WeWork - A Workspace Haven for SMB’s
HQ by WeWork was a promising spinoff designed to provide private offices to small and medium-sized businesses. By serving up dedicated spaces with adaptable lease terms, HQ by WeWork aimed to fill a gaping hole in the market. But as the company retrenched, this initiative got the axe, leaving a throng of SMBs still hungry for flexible workspace solutions. This seems to have some iteration still existing within WeWork today.
The Idea of an All-in-One Supply Chain
WeWork's strategic partnerships with furniture companies and investments in office apps were all part of a grand vision to create a seamless, all-inclusive office experience. This interconnected ecosystem allowed WeWork to have a hand in shaping every aspect of office design, from stylish furniture to advanced technology. This pioneering approach could have set the benchmark for workspace solutions, streamlining the process for companies and their employees. Keep an eye on Clearspace - they're following a similar path and making waves in the industry!

WeGrow: WeGrow was an educational initiative by WeWork that aimed to provide a progressive private school experience for children. Due to the financial challenges faced by WeWork, WeGrow was shut down in 2019.
Conductor: Acquired by WeWork in 2018, Conductor was a marketing and SEO platform. The company was spun off in 2020, becoming an independent business once again.
Teem: Teem, a workplace analytics and meeting room management company, was acquired by WeWork in 2018. WeWork later sold Teem to iOFFICE in 2020.
WeWork Labs: WeWork Labs, an incubator program for startups, faced some downsizing during the financial crisis, but it still exists within the company today.

🤝 Mentoring Magic: Why In-Person Connection Matters 🤝
Economics Professor Nick Bloom knows a thing or two about the power of in-person mentoring. According to his recent LinkedIn post, mentoring is more effective face-to-face. Sure, remote mentoring can work, but it demands extra effort. That's where the beauty of hybrid work comes in, striking the perfect balance between office and remote life.
💼 In-Office Benefits: When it comes to mentoring, innovation, and fostering company culture, nothing beats the energy of in-person interactions. Bloom's research (source: https://lnkd.in/gUBn7Epg) supports the value of face time for creating a strong mentor-mentee bond and sparking those magical "aha!" moments.
🏠 Remote Work Perks: But don't forget the advantages of working from home. Remote days provide the peace and quiet needed for deep work, without the hassle of daily commutes.
So, hats off to Nick Bloom for shedding light on the importance of in-person mentoring in the hybrid work era. By blending office days for connection and collaboration with remote days for focused work, we can cultivate the best of both worlds and supercharge our professional growth. 💪💥
